Blexr Presents First Women in iGaming Meetup

Thirty women gathered at Crust Bakery in St Julian’s for the very first Women in iGaming (WiiG) meetup in Malta.

The gathering, organised by Blexr, was intended to create a safe space where women working in iGaming could come together and discuss industry-related topics.

We kicked off the first WiiG with a panel made up of four females from different sectors of the industry.

The discussion was led by Casumo’s head of affiliates Laura O’Brien, Blexr’s PPC specialist Laura Barkay, Betsson’s SEO manager Marta Szmidt and Relax Gaming’s content manager Bettina Pace Ricci.

Our own PR & events co-ordinator Faye Pace Decesare hosted the night.

The panellists discussed different topics, such as whether the promotional models hired to work at iGaming conferences give an appropriate image of the industry as a whole. They also talked about the challenges they face as females in the workplace, and whether women have to work harder than men to climb up the corporate ladder.

Another talking point was the positive trend in the percentage of women currently in iGaming companies and their roles, as well as the importance of brand values and authenticity in the industry.

The audience chipped in with their views as well, which led to a great atmosphere where plenty of opinions were exchanged.

We wrapped up with a draw for a bottle of champagne courtesy of Hammett’s boutique hotel, Cugo Gran Macina in Senglea. Liezel Spangenberg was the lucky winner of the raffle.

After the panel wrapped up, the conversations continued at the bar and there was plenty of networking going on during our complimentary wine and nibbles. Crust’s signature donuts were also a particular highlight of the night.

We’re already planning the next meetup, so if you’re a woman working in iGaming then make sure you join our WiiG community to stay up-to-date with our future events.
